Water Is More Than Just Water
As is commonly known, water is the most important nutrient for animals, and ensuring access to clean and safe water is primordial to ensuring the animals’ optimal performance, growth, and health. In the dairy/livestock industry it is known that dry matter intake is directly related to water intake, meaning the less water an animal drinks, the less feed it consumes, translating to a reduction in weight gain, milk production, and animal performance and health. In these industries, water accounts for between 50% and 80% of the animal’s weight and is crucial in every physiological process.
How Does Water Quality Affect Livestock?
Negative water properties can greatly affect the performance of livestock operations. Research has shown that chemical compounds, such as sulfates and nitrates, as well as organic compounds, like algae, can be detrimental to achieving optimal growth and health for the animals. Sulfates, for example, are commonly found in the form of calcium, iron, sodium, and magnesium salts. High levels of these salts make the water taste unpleasant to animals, reducing their intake. High concentrations of sulfates can also cause diarrhea and lead to death, in some cases. Nitrates have become one of the principal water problems related to livestock. Once nitrate is digested by the animal, it’s converted into nitrite, which is hazardous. Excessive nitrate intake by livestock may result in a lethargic animal, and even death. Prolonged exposure to elevated levels of nitrates may result in lower feed intake, depressed growth rate and abortions. Bluegreen algae in stagnant waters are toxic and may result in death of animals as well.
What Can Engeenuity Offer Your Livestock Production?
Faster Growth Times
Having stated the importance of water for livestock, water treated with BioPhoton-X™ by Engeenuity provides the animal with optimized water, which contains improved organoleptic and physicochemical parameters. One example of how we can achieve said effects is by reducing water’s surface tension and neutralizing chemical compounds in water. Using our all-natural, non-chemical, innocuous treatment, we can ensure livestock not only obtains added benefits, which is unthinkable from otherwise un-treated water, but also reducing exposure to detrimental water parameters. Instead of the animal using its energy to defend itself against harmful factors, we can control said factors and allow for the animal to use its energy to convert more weight and grow healthy. In a poultry farm, we were able to prove this concept by increasing total weight by approximately 5-10% and reducing sacrifice age by 2-3 days.
Better Quality
Providing animals with water treated with BioPhoton-X™ we can improve the quality of any product derived from the animal. Milk content, for example, is 87% water. If we provide animals with improved water, consequently, the water in the milk will also increase in quality. Dairy products such as yogurt, cheese, butter, among others, will see an increase in quality, especially taking into consideration our Bacteriostatic Mechanism of Action, which inhibits bacterial reproduction. Likewise, content of meat is approximately 75% water. In a test run in HML Laboratories, milk which was exposed to BioPhoton-X™ technology, was able to inhibit CFU’s substantially below spoilage levels, avoid curdling, and inhibit bad odor, 67 days after the “Sell by” date. In a Silliker test, we were able to reduce CFU’s in lean ground beef by upwards of 75%.
Mortality Reduction
One of the main requirements for an effective immune response is efficient hydration. The parameters which we can modify and add into water allow for the animals to be hydrated at an optimal level, which translates to a better immune response against external factors which may hinder the animals’ growth. Not only do we limit the potency and number of external factors which may interfere with the animals’ physiological processes, yet we provide the animal with an increased capacity to defend itself, without the use of chemicals. In a poultry farm, data proves our effect in significantly reducing animal mortality upwards of 30%, from an original 5.23% to 2.47%, and in another case from 5.15% to 3.44%.
